The anticipated salary range for this role is between $134,000.00 and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

This role is for a Distributed Computing Engineer working as part of the Technology Systems Infrastructure department within the Americas Division of SMBC, with a focus on Capital Markets, Inc. This role will provide collaboration with the Infrastructure engineers during architecture, design, development phases, guidance, interpretation, and engineering expertise. Focus on the overall Infrastructure on both on-prem and cloud, cost effectiveness, quality of IT Solutions, knowledge transfer, and mentoring of the engineering team. The candidate will work within the Engineering team and will interact with members of the infrastructure team, front office developers, project managers, and business users.

Role Objectives

• Collaborate with the Infrastructure and Security engineers during Architecture, design, and development phases, providing guidance, interpretation, and engineering expertise

• Focus on the overall architecture design, cost effectiveness, quality of IT solution, knowledge transfer, and mentoring of the project technical team members.

• Automation and streamlining existing processes.

• Creating and modifying scripts to configure and automate common tasks with power CLI/Python and Power Shell.

• Provide Operational Support for Infrastructure services for on and off premise systems.

• Work on assigned Infrastructure projects and tasks.

• Follow the change control processes and procedures.

• Provide systems monitoring troubleshooting, and problem resolution for the Microsoft Windows Servers, Desktops, on-prem and Cloud (e.g., Azure and AWS) environments.

• Provide support for level 3 escalations

• Support, develop, document, test, and implement engineering solutions.

• Research and recommend innovative solutions and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.

• Provide technical consultation in new systems implementation, new feature or function evaluations, and enhancement of existing systems (automation).

• The candidate will produce detailed implementation instructions and carry out required changes to complete tasks/projects, resolve incidents/problems, and for changes/improvements requested by management.

• The candidate is required to update/maintain all documentation and will be tasked with improving such documentation as required.

• Maintain effective communication with the Systems Infrastructure team and management.

• Perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

• After hours work may be necessary at times for installations, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.

Qualifications and Skills

• We are looking for a Distributed Computing Engineer with 7+ years of experience.

• Strong hands-on expertise of Active Directory (Group Policies, ADFS, LDAP, Kerberos, DNS, DHCP, CA, Domains &Trust, AD Replication, Infoblox).

• Experienced with Microsoft Windows Servers and Desktops.

• Experienced with Virtualization and Storage technologies.

• Experienced with scripting (Microsoft PowerShell), Automation scripts with DevOps mindset.

• Experienced with CIS Benchmark Standards for Servers and Workstations – On-Prem and Cloud.

• Automation and streamlining existing processes would be key for this role.

• Intermediate knowledge of Linux OS.

• Proficient in Infrastructure monitoring systems

• Experienced in SSO technologies, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Claims, and SAML / OpenID.

• Knowledge in architecting and implementing cloud-based solutions with robust Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery requirements – Azure Site Recovery (ASR) to help migrate from on-prem to Cloud and build DR in different region.

• Knowledge with Azure AD Provisioning services, Azure AD Connect, Azure Application Proxy, Azure Automation.

• Knowledge with FSLogix File System and Azure Storage – apply industry best practices and industry standard approaches to ensure cloud desktop modernization architecture.

• Knowledge to automate the cloud resource deployments using the Terraform and/or CloudFormation.

• Knowledge with Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop.
